It is hard to believe that it is already time to provide our quarterly update on the news and accomplishments at Bookfriends International, NFP.  We continue to be so grateful, thankful and amazed at the support and help that we continue to receive from so many  eager to help further our important work to provide building blocks for education in Africa.

hard at work.

A thank you letter from the Head Master at a school in Tanzania provides great encouragement to Bookfriends that our mission is important to the young people whose lives we touch.  We hope you will take a moment to read the letter, as well as the other updates in this edition of Bookfriends E-News.

As always, thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

ABOUT BOOKFRIENDS INTERNATIONAL, NFP

In early 2004 we took a vacation trip to Tanzania that turned into something much more than we expected.  An afternoon at a secondary school in northern Tanzania changed our lives forever.  While touring the school building, we saw lots of kids but very few books.  The shelves in the library were nearly bare and few books were seen in the classrooms.  One of the teachers said, "Yes, we don't have many books.  They are just too expensive."

We knew that there had to be something we could do to help.  Since then, we have "walked the path" and have developed an organization that is able to accomplish the important mission of providing building blocks for education in Africa.  Growing numbers of volunteers have given of their time and energy to strengthen our long term mission.  We ship donated and used books to fill eager students' hands and empty library shelves.  Our donated books come from middle schools, high schools, libraries, individuals, book drives, and book publishing companies.  Please read on to learn more about what we are doing today and how you can help.  Visit our website for more information, www.Bookfriends.org.  We are an IRS approved 501(c) 3 organization.  All gifts are tax-deductible.  Please join with us.  The need is great and urgent.  You can become a "Book Friend."

Their Minds Need to be Fed Also . . .

When the developed countries send only food and clothing to a hungry Africa, what is the result?

How can they ever develop to become self-reliant if we do not help feed their minds?  Let's teach them "how to fish."

The result will be stronger democracies, healthier societies, more vibrant economies, and responsible birth rates.
